Room Room (r[=oo]m), n. [OE. roum, rum, space, AS. r[=u]m; akin to OS., OFries. & Icel. r[=u]m, D. ruim, G. raum, OHG. r[=u]m, Sw. & Dan. rum, Goth. r[=u]ms, and to AS. r[=u]m, adj., spacious, D. ruim, Icel. r[=u]mr, Goth. r[=u]ms; and prob. to L. rus country (cf. Rural), Zend rava[.n]h wide, free, open, ravan a plain.] 1. Unobstructed spase; space which may be occupied by or devoted to any object; compass; extent of place, great or small; as, there is not room for a house; the table takes up too much room.
