Webster's 1828 DictionaryHEM'ORRHOIDS, n. [Gr. blood, and a flowing.] A discharge of blood from the vessels of the anus; the piles; in Scripture, emerods. Webster's 1913 DictionaryPiles Piles, n. pl. [L. pila a ball. Cf. Pill a medicine.] (Med.) The small, troublesome tumors or swellings about the anus and lower part of the rectum which are technically called hemorrhoids. See Hemorrhoids.
