Garrett, Pat(rick Floyd) definitions

Britannica Concise

U.S. lawman. Born in Chambers Co., Ala., he worked as a cowboy and buffalo hunter until 1879, when he settled in Lincoln Co., N.M., and became sheriff. In 1881 he tracked down and shot the escaped Billy the Kid. He later became a rancher, sheriff of Dona Ana Co., N.M., and customs collector in El Paso. He was fatally shot in a dispute over a ranch lease, but suspicion lingered that he was executed by an enemy from his days as sheriff.
